The story behind Friiiigo
Why a fridge calendar?
Sure, every parent has a calendar on their phone. But when you have little ones at home, something magical happens when you stick a big, colourful calendar on the fridge and let the kids own it.
Teaching time
From around age 2, kids start to understand concepts like "today", "tomorrow" and "the day after". A physical calendar on the fridge gives them something real to look at, point to, and ask about every single day. It helps them grasp days of the week, months, and the rhythm of family life in a way no app can replicate.
No screens involved
You print it once and it lives on the fridge. Kids interact with it by looking, pointing, drawing and crossing off days, not by tapping a phone or tablet. In a world where everything runs through a screen, a paper calendar on the wall is a small but meaningful exception.
It's meant to be touched, and messed up
Kids can scribble on it, draw on it, cross off the days, circle their favourite ones. That hands-on relationship with time is exactly the point. And when the month is over, you just print a fresh one.
Help kids wait for the things they're looking forward to
Holidays, birthday parties, a visit from grandma, or the more stressful ones like a doctor's appointment. Writing events on the calendar gives children a concrete way to track time passing and understand that "soon" is actually just a few squares away.
Highlight the days that matter to your family
Every family has its own rhythm. Here in France, kids don't go to school on Wednesdays, so I highlight them every week. You can use the colour highlights for whatever makes sense for yours: school days, sports days, days at grandma's, anything.
Your language, not your location
I live in France, I work in English, but I speak Italian to my kids. Families are complicated that way. This is why Friiiigo never uses your location to suggest a language. You just pick the one that goes on the fridge.
Add notes before you print
You can type a short note into any day before printing: a birthday, a reminder, a little message. It shows up right on the calendar, so the whole family sees it at a glance.
I used to draw a calendar by hand every month. It worked great until the kids messed it up and I had to redo the whole thing from scratch, making sure every day landed on the right column. That gets old fast. Now I just hit print, and my 5-year-old takes it from there. Watching him cross off the days to his birthday is worth every line of code.
